Servant leadership is a term that often, as stated by Northouse, “seems contradictory and challenges our traditional beliefs about leadership” (2019, p. 227). The literal definition of a leader is to point the direction for others to follow, and for a servant to follow those they serve.
That said, servant leadership has become a key philosophy within leadership. In this discussion thread, assess how a leader can be both a leader and a servant at the same time, and present two specific strategies a person can follow to ensure they become a leader and a servant that influences others to follow.
Embed course material concepts, principles, and theories (including supporting citations) along with at least one current, scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article. You may find that your discussion of leadership characteristics is easily supported with such current scholarly research, while the information about how your chosen leader exhibits those leadership characteristics is supported by popular research.
