Write an in-depth response to each of the prompts numbered below. Number your response with the question. Each response needs to be at least four sentences in length. Refer to “Writing Rubric” (in the Getting Started Module and the syllabus) for content and grammar guidelines. Upload your file into the dropbox folder.

After reading Chapter 9, “Health Care Services”, reviewing the Web sites “Center for Disease Control” and “NASW Healthcare Standards” and “Social Workers in Hospitals and Medical Centers”, “Medicaid”, and “Examples of Psychosocial Assessments”, and watching the videos, write in-depth responses to the following questions. 

1. Go to the Resource section of the Activities module. Click on the two links provided to the Center for Disease Control website. List the top chronic diseases in the US and the top causes of death.  What are some lifestyle reasons that contribute to these diseases?  How can Social Work impact these areas for change? 
2. Watch the  video entitled “What is Medicaid?”. Go to the Readings section and click on the two links provided entitled “Medicare” and “Medicaid”.  Click on this link for Tennessee Medicaid. TennCare. Explain Medicaid and identify what services for healthcare it provides. Identify who is eligible and what the exact income/resource limits are to receive it in Tennessee.
3. Go to the Readings section and click on the links under the title “Examples of Healthcare Psychosocial Assessments”. Once you have read through these examples, review the specifics written in the textbook regarding the contents of an assessment in healthcare. Outline what categories need to be in a healthcare psychosocial assessment and explain the importance of each.    How does health impact other areas of a client’s life?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 
4. In the textbook, the roles of social workers in health care are addressed. Describe the different settings and the roles required in each setting (acute care, ambulatory care, long-term care, disabilities.  State details of this setting and what the social worker’s roles and interventions are.
5. Review the ethics noted in the textbook on pages 278-279. Go to the Readings section and click on the link for the “NASW Healthcare Standards”. Read through the entire listing of the standards. After reading this, click on the link entitled “Social Work Best Practices”. Read the guidelines listed in this document.  Highlight the values, ethics, and practice models social workers need to adhere to for healthcare social work. 
6. There are several short video clips linked above under the Activities section. Watch each of the videos about healthcare social work. Go to Readings and click on the link “Social Workers in Hospitals and Medical Centers”. Read the information provided. Summarize the key roles and interventions that social workers do in healthcare. Would healthcare social work be a fit for you? Why or why not?
